Lucia Roşca HERITAGE
I began making clothes by deconstructing my mother’s garments, so much so that she would sometimes hide her favorite pieces from me, afraid I might cut them up. From time to time, I return to this practice with my clients, reimagining beloved textiles so they can be worn again. Each project feels very personal also because it brings me back to a place in time where play was the best way to learn and spend free time. Here are some transformations I worked on.
A traditional blouse made from a skirt
Andreea brought a traditional skirt inherited from her grandmother. At first, she only wanted a few adjustments, but as we talked, the idea of turning it into a blouse felt more practical and inspiring. Once I started deconstructing it, I realized the skirt had been entirely sewn by hand, so I decided to follow the same path, sewing the blouse completely by hand as a way to honor its history and dedication behind it.
A coat made from a blanket
Alexandra came with two traditional handwoven wool blankets from her grandparents’ house. She imagined a set of winter coats, and we began with the first, a black-and-white piece with traditional motifs, which I transformed into a coat. Its generous curved hem was designed to use all the fabric, with every edge sewn carefully by hand.
If you have textiles or garments of personal value, I invite you to bring them over. Together, we can find ways to preserve both memory and the fabric. The process can take place in person at my atelier, or entirely at a distance. We can discuss ideas online, or you can simply send me the textiles by post or courier. Once I have all the details, I will share design proposals, required measurements, and estimated costs, production timelines, and invoicing.
Every piece is approached with respect for tradition, with a strong desire to preserve as much of the old process as possible, by sewing by hand, intervening as little as I can, avoiding zippers or other modern accessories. Each garment is made individually to fit you perfectly, which means no adjustments or returns are needed. All this may extend the delivery a little longer.
